Goodyear Offers 12 Lines of Consumer Tires Containing Soybean Oil

U.S. Soy welcomes The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s continued use of soybean oil in select consumer lines of Goodyear- and Cooper-branded tires. The use of soybean oil in consumer tires assists with enhanced tread pliability in cold weather conditions for solid traction, as well as strong grip in wet road conditions. Goodyear currently offers the following consumer tires that contain soybean oil:

Goodyear – Wrangler Workhorse HT (Hard Metric and LT); Wrangler Outbound AT (Hard Metric and LT); Wrangler Workhorse AT2 (Hard Metric); Assurance WeatherReady 2 (successor product to the soy-containing Assurance WeatherReady); Assurance ComfortDrive; Reliant All-Season, Eagle F1 All Season (successor product to the soybean oil-containing Eagle Exhilarate), ElectricDrive 2, and the Eagle Enforcer All Weather

“Goodyear’s continued roll out of tires containing soybean oil showcases how checkoff investments grow and diversify markets for U.S. soybean farmers,” said farmer-leader Barry Alexander, a soybean farmer from Kentucky. “Goodyear’s innovation and use of this bio-based oil contribute to performance for consumers and fleets.”

Goodyear tires using soybean oil were first made available on the nationwide market in 2017 as a result of a research partnership between Goodyear and U.S. Soy. During the 2018 Tire Technology Expo in Hannover, Germany, Goodyear received the prestigious Tire Technology International Award for Innovation and Excellence in the category of “Environmental Achievement of the Year.” The awarded technology represented a breakthrough by Goodyear in applying soybean oil in the tread compound of tires, replacing petroleum-based oils. Goodyear’s use of soybean oil leverages opportunities caused by the significant surplus of oil that is currently available beyond what is used in food applications.

Because of the potential for biobased products to create new markets for soybeans, U.S. soybean farmers have invested millions of dollars to research, test and promote biobased products. Much of the research work contributing to these products was funded through U.S. Soy, powered by the Soy Checkoff.
