Soy adhesives are being used to make decorative hardwood panels used in cabinetry, millwork, fixtures and furniture. The North Carolina-based manufacturer, Columbia Forest Products, reports they have made 60 million of the American-made soy-based panels.
Composite panels have been designated for federal procurement preference by USDA’s BioPreferred program.
A credit toward the United States Green Building Council’s LEED certification may be earned if composite wood products used within the interior of a building do not contain added urea-formaldehyde resins.
