Pam Konde’s business, Mac’s Tires, is a household name to native Washingtonians. Pam and her mother own the shop that her father started more than 40 years ago to serve taxi drivers who were out late and needed 24-hour repairs. Going strong decades later, Mac’s Tires still caters to the District of Columbia and the surrounding areas to meet both performance as well as carbon reduction goals.
View the video below that shares why environmentally conscious business owner praises Goodyear’s soy-biobased tires to her customers. “Goodyear, when they rolled this out, we were really excited to see that they actually had a product that was reducing the petroleum use in tires and instead using soy,” Konde says.
Goodyear developed the tires in partnership with the United Soybean Board (USB) and has expanded its soy-biobased offering to a total of four lines of tires.
Konde describes the soy tires’ quality as top notch as well as an opportunity to supply her customers with tires that support their environmental goals. Mac’s delivers tires to the District of Columbia, including the Department of Public Works (DPW) that adheres to the Mayor’s Climate Action Plan, an initiative to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2032 and become carbon neutral by 2050.
DPW’s Tire and Tow Shop Manager Allen Perry explains how the use of Goodyear’s soy-based tires are helpful to his work that cares for 4,000 district government vehicles and equipment. “We’ve been using Goodyear’s Assurance WeatherReady tire,” Perry says. “They are not sliding and spinning as much in the snow. They are gripping the road.”
“Within the District, the federal government has so many operating fleets so using a soy-based product would be beneficial to us all,” says Konde.
“U.S. soybean growers applaud Pam Konde, District of Columbia fleet leaders and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for their collaboration with USB so soy-biobased products are used in the nation’s capital city” said USB Director Matt Gast, a soybean grower from North Dakota. “They are important allies in achieving USB’s vision of partnering to deliver sustainable soy solutions to every life, every day.”
