There is an array of currently available biobased products, including those made from soybeans, which can meet the needs of federal purchasers and users of janitorial and cleaning materials.
These products include:
- Hand Cleaners
- General Purpose Cleaners
- Glass Cleaner
- Floor & Tile Cleaner
- Stainless Steel Cleaners
- Dust Mop Treatment
- Bathroom Cleaner
- Graffiti Removers
- And more…
These products:
- are commercially available;
- are designed to meet relevant commercial product performance standards;
- are cost-competitive; and
- have environmental, health and safety benefits.
Congress and the President recognized these benefits and approved legislation that requires government agencies to use them. In May 2002, the President signed the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002, commonly called the Farm Bill, which calls on federal agencies to establish affirmative procurement programs for purchasing biobased products unless there is a price, performance, or availability reason not to do so. Early adoption of biobased products will help organizations respond quickly to the biobased procurement requirements included in Section 9002 of the Farm Bill as well as address the current biobased purchasing provisions in Executive Order 13101.
