Biobased Solutions

Biobased parts cleaning and washing fluids can be used to remove oils, carbon, and grease in a variety of industrial applications. According to their manufacturers, these products:

  • Are efficient and cost effective
  • Are readily biodegradable
  • Are virtually non-toxic



- Franmar Chemical®, Inc. manufactures a soy-based product, called BEAN-e-doo® Parts Washer, that according to Franmar meets stringent VOC and vapor pressure standards, has a flash point of 400 degrees F, and can be used in most parts washing equipment.

- Bio-Parts Soy-Cleaner/Degreaser, according to its manufacturer Renewable Lubricants, Inc., is a specially formulated, ultimately biodegradable parts cleaner that can be used to replace petroleum solvents for cleaning parts and equipment. According to Renewable Lubricants, it is a safe, non flammable product has been formulated with anti-oxidants for improved stability. Renewable Lubricants, Inc. also makes Bio-General Purpose Cleaner/Degreaser (water emulsifiable) which, according to its manufacturer, is an excellent biobased, ultimately biodegradable product that can be used for cleaning parts and equipment either as a straight solution or solubilized with water before use. When used as a straight solution the product cleans and breaks down easily with a garden hose or pressure washers.

- Green Products, LLC, manufacturers aMAIZEing™, which is a solvent and stripper made from a combination of corn and soybean oil esters that can be used as a parts cleaner. According to its manufacturer, aMAIZEing™ is 100% biobased (per ASTM D 6866-04), is readily biodegradable, contains no environmentally hazardous ingredients, contains no ozone depleting chemicals (OCDs), and contains no hazardous air pollutants.

- SC-Supersolv™, according to its manufacturer Gemtek® Products, is a non-evaporative solvent that removes most organic and inorganic soils without damaging the cleaning surface. According to Gemtek, it works effectively in ultrasonic and automatic parts cleaners and automotive parts washers. SC-SuperSolv™ is available through the GSA Supply Schedule (#GS-07F-5942R).

- Soy Technologies, LLC makes SoyGreen® 5000, which, according to the manufacturer, is a low VOC biobased solvent that can replace many common terpene or petrochemical products. According to Soy Technologies, it is readily biodegradable, non- flammable and ideal for heavy duty degreasing. It is recognized by EPA’s Design for the Environment program.

- Workcell Systems, Inc. has two biobased parts cleaning fluids, Glysol™ PC and Glysol™ SA. According to Workcell Systems, Glysol™ PC is a powerful biobased parts cleaning fluid derived from soybeans and other natural sources that can replace mineral spirits in manual and immersion-type parts washers and is safer, cleans better, lasts longer, has low toxicity, no unpleasant fumes or skin irritation and is biodegradable. According to Workcell Systems, Glysol™ SA is an advanced formula semi-aqueous biobased soybean-derived cleaning fluid that removes both solvent-soluble and water-soluble soils and has no flash point, is safe for use in spray-type parts washers and is biodegradable.

- Vertec BioSolvents, Inc. has a corn and soybean-derived parts cleaner, called VertecBio Gold™ Parts Cleaner. According to its manufacturer, the parts cleaner has a low vapor pressure and a high loading capacity, has excellent solvency power, has a longer performance life, has a flash point over 145 degrees F, rinses with water, and has a high BTU value for waste disposal.
