Biobased Solutions

Soy-based degreasers can safely and effectively remove a variety of materials from many different surfaces.

-  Bio-Parts Soy-Cleaner/Degreaser, according to its manufacturer, Renewalbe Lubricants, Inc., is a specially formulated, ultimately biodegradable parts cleaner that can be used to replace petroleum solvents for cleaning parts and equipment. According to Renewable Lubricants, it is a safe, non flammable product which has been formulated with anti-oxidants for improved stability. Renewable Lubricants, Inc. also makes Bio-General Purpose Cleaner/Degreaser (water emulsifiable) which, according to its manufacturer, is an excellent biobased, ultimate biodegradable product that can be used for cleaning parts and equipment either as a straight solution or solubilized with water before use. When used as a straight solution the product cleans and breaks down easily with a garden hose or pressure washers.

- Green Products, LLC, manufacturers aMAIZEing™, which is a solvent and stripper made from a combination of corn and soybean oil esters that can be used as a degreaser. According to its manufacturer, aMAIZEing™ is 100% biobased (per ASTM D 6866-04), is readily biodegradable, contains no environmentally hazardous ingredients, contains no ozone depleting chemicals (OCDs), and contains no hazardous air pollutants.

- SC-1000™, according to its manufacturer Gemtek® Products, removes fats, greases, oils, and sugars without reacting with or damaging the cleaning surfaces, has been recognized by EPA’s Design for the Environment program and is certified by SCAQMD (California) as a Clean Air Solvent. SC-1000™ is available through the GSA Supply Schedule (#GS-07F-5942R).

- SoyGreen® Power Degreaser,  according to its manufacturer, Soy Technologies, is an emulsion that offers the cleaning performance and safety of a soy based degreaser, but the cost effectiveness of a water based cleaner. This formulation mixes oil (soy) and water into an emulsion for degreasing all types of surfaces. The formulation also is designed to remove paint overspray, magic marker, scuff marks, and more. Soy Technologies also makes SoyGreen® 1000, SoyGreen® 5000 and SoyGreen® 6000, which, according to the manufacturer, are low VOC biobased solvents that are non flammable and readily biodegradable. According to Soy Technologies, SoyGreen® 1000 is ideal for degreasing, metal cleaning, auto parts cleaning, and many other applications. SoyGreen® 5000 is slightly more aggressive and ideal for engine and heavy duty degreasing, and SoyGreen® 6000 is a thickened version of SoyGreen® 5000 and is ideal for vertical applications. SoyGreen® 1000, 5000 and 6000 are recognized by EPA’s Design for the Environment program.

- According to its manufacturer, VertecBioGold™ is an excellent degreaser for heavy lubes and greases. According to its manufacturer, the degreaser has a low vapor pressure and a high loading capacity, has excellent solvency power, has a longer performance life, has a flash point over 145 degrees F, rinses with water, and has a high BTU value for waste disposal.

- Spartan Chemical’s BioRenewables™ Industrial Degreaser is a water rinsable industrial degreaser designed to be used in concentrated form which, according to its manufacture, can tackle the removal of grease, dirt, cosmoline, tar, many inks, most adhesives and industrial oil and is safe to use on ferrous and non-ferrous metal, concrete, ceramic tile and brick. According to the manufacturer, the product has a reduced VOC profile and complies with strict, new VOC restrictions. The product has an NSN number (7930-01-555-2897) and is available through the JWOD catalog on GSA Advantage!.
